Are we there yet?

What parent has not heard their child or children utter these four words while traveling?  It is always especially humorous when it is uttered shortly after leaving the house in eager anticipation of the event that awaits at the intended destination.  Traveling with children can be a challenge as it requires advance planning to provide adequate entertainment, snacks, the much required sanity breaks, plus a means to expend pent-up energy and enthusiasm in order to endure the next segment of being strapped into a seat for several hours.

Working with customers is similar to traveling with children, especially if the work involved requires a trans-formative change to occur in order for the customer to arrive at the intended destination.

In Praise of Supportive Families and Trusted Friends

best-friends-forever

Best Friends Forever

In my life, I am blessed with an amazingly supportive spouse, family and very good friends.  It is through their involvement in my life, that I am able to juggle the demands of being an entrepreneur, community volunteer and advocate, with the responsibilities and joys of running a house and caring for a family.  Valentine’s Day  brought that message home in special way this year.

Amidst the busy pace of my husband’s and my businesses, along with my daughter having back-to-back dance competitions, plus my volunteer efforts,  making Valentine’s Day a special event seemed highly unlikely this year.

Are you the stream or the rock?

“In the confrontation between the stream and the rock, the stream always wins – not through strength, but through persistence.” ~ Buddha.

How many times have you been the rock in your own life?  Stubborn, unmoving, and unwilling to admit that a new approach is needed to move forward? Are you letting the troubles of the world become a stream that is wearing you  and your business down? Are you even willing to take an honest look at where you are, how you got here, and then put forth the effort to become the stream?  Are you willing to become a stream so powerful that you can wash away the rocks in your life that are keeping you from reaching your dreams? What does T.G.I.F. mean to you?

Does it mean That Girl Is Freaking-out because she cannot generate enough revenue to pay her bills?

Could it possibly mean That Girl Is Fabulous because she is consistently generating  revenue month-to-month, is financially stable, is generating wealth for her family, and is able to grow her business?

As women entrepreneurs our goal is to T.G.I.F. as in FABULOUS!

The great recession has been hard on many people.  It has been especially hard for young people who are trying to get their first professional experiences underway.  It has been even harder on the over 40 crowd who have lost their jobs through chronic cycles of right sizing, off shoring, out sourcing, and straight forward business failures and layoffs.  Today, one of the fastest growing sectors of our national economy are people ages 45 to 65 opening small business that leverage their corporate experiences. Most of these businesses are solo-entrepreneurs; many of them are involuntary entrepreneurs, wishing instead that they could land a “W2.” Continue reading

Are You In Touch With Your Intitutive Mind?

“The intuitive mind is a sacred gift and the rational mind is a faithful servant. We have…forgotten the gift.” -Albert Einstein

Connection with the Divine is a gift that is available to all women all of the time, but sometimes in the rush of meeting the demands of our responsibilities we forget to set aside time to tap into this life renewing resource.  When we do take the time to be connected and let the Divine energy flow through us we can find that it provides comfort, inspiration, confidence, love, serenity, wisdom, and peace.  That is a sweet return on 20 minutes of quiet mediation.

Have you found your sweet spot?

In  “To Find Happiness, Forget Passion”   a Harvard Business Review blog post, Oliver Segovia writes that “Happiness comes from the intersection of what you love, what you’re good at, and what the world needs.”  As soon as I read it, it struck a chord in my heart and my soul.  This is the essence, the core, the base foundation of what makes women entrepreneurs successful.  I call it finding your sweet spot.

What is your dream?

Dr. Martin Luther King, Junior had a beautiful dream.  A dream of a truly integrated society that is blind to the color of people’s skin. A dream that regardless of your race or ethnic origin a person would have equal rights, equal opportunities, and enjoy equal success in life. It is a beautiful dream. One that millions of people around the world have embraced with their whole heart and their souls. The work continues to bring that dream into full fruition.  It is good work that I wholeheartedly support.
